Hair Journey Update

This is my hair update now that I’ve been on my hair journey for 8 months.
In March I started my hair journey at shoulder length. My hair had breakage and was uneven thanks to heat abuse and overall neglecting my hair. It was also very thin which let me know something had to change because I’ve had thick hair all my life. After religiously following my hair regimen I noticed a change in Aug. I had retained length and gained thickness and also passed APL. Only problem still remained was my ends. So I did what I should have done in the very beginning which was trim my ends. Now I’m in Nov. and did a length check after stretching for 15 weeks and I’m really happy with the results. I’m now grazing BSL! My hair is back to being thick again and I’ve mastered my hair regimen. I flat ironed using raw African Shea Butter which gave me real silky results. After a long time of being a product junkie, I’ve finally found products that work best for me. I left the ones I don’t use anymore on the list crossed out because what didn’t work for me may work for others. Here’s a glimpse at my regimen:
Weekly
Co-Wash 1-2x’s (washing hair with conditioner only)
Deep Condition (moisture) after every wash using my
Regular wash using shampoo 1x every week or every 2 weeks
- Moisturize & Seal when needed
- Protein treatment when needed
- Clarify when needed using clarifying shampoo (this gets rid of product build up)
Texlax no less than 10 weeks. Using Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Relaxer in Normal. Try to stretch as Iong as I can from there
Texlaxing: Applying relaxer for less than the recommended time and/or adding a base such as oil or conditioner with your conditioner to make it milder. So I intentionally underprocess my hair so it keeps texture and is not bone straight. Thus resulting in less damaged hair.
Direct heat (flat iron or blow dryer)
On relax day or for special occasions.
*When using heat I always make sure I use a heat protectant. I usually use grapeseed oil or raw yellow African Shea Butter*
Air dry 90% of the time
I just put my leave-in conditioner in tie it down with a scarf and wait till its 75% dry before I do my no heat style. You can also moisturize and seal while it’s drying.

Once I explain who I am you will probably figure out why I am writing. My name is Elisa Graves and I am, for lack of better words, an Army wife. I came across the petition to restore “Pit Pulls” to military bases and noticed the petition had closed. I myself have been trying to figure out some way…
